There are so many different ways to apply makeup and the order on how to do your makeup can vary from person to person. I wanted to share how I do my makeup step by step. Whether you’re a completely new to makeup and want to learn the basic steps or know exactly what you’re doing and looking for new products to try out, I hope this will be helpful to you!
It’s also worth mentioning that Sephora is having their Spring Beauty Insider sale right now! Rouge members get 20% off // VIB: 15% off // Insider: 10% off with code: SPRINGSAVE. The majority of the products I use in my makeup routine are available from Sephora. I’ll share which items specifically below.

Brushes I Use to Apply My Makeup:
Step 1: Moisturize & Mix with Tanning Drops
The first step to my makeup routine is moisturizing. We all want to avoid the “cakey” makeup look and one of the best ways to do that is to moisturize before applying makeup and after your morning skincare routine. What I’ll also do in this step to get a little color/natural tan to my face is I will put 2 drops of the tan luxe self-tan into the moisturizer, mix it and apply allover my face. I do this every other day. On the days I don’t mix in the tanning drops, I just use the moisturizer by itself.
Step 2: Primer for a Smooth Canvas
Next, make sure you apply a primer before you apply any makeup. I love the Tula face filter primer. It helps to create a smooth canvas so that your concealer, foundation, etc. can go on seamlessly. You can get 20% off your Tula order with my code: ‘JAIMES’. I also added a few of their other products into my everyday skincare routine if you need recommendations for other Tula products.
Step 3: Hollywood Flawless Filter
I love this stuff! It gives you such a pretty glow. I apply just a few streaks to my forehead and cheeks and then I blend using this brush.
Step 4: Foundation Stick
Depending on the day or occasion, I don’t always use foundation and will skip to concealer. For the days that I do, I found this awesome foundation stick. I use the shade: ‘warm beige’. I do a swipe on my nose, chin, cheeks, forehead and go in with a damp beauty blender and dab allover to blend.
Step 5: Concealer for Under Eyes
I use the Too Faced Born This Way Concealer in ‘swan’. I apply under my eyes and a little truly goes a long way. Concealer can be the most noticeable when it’s not totally blended in so make sure this step doesn’t get overlooked. I like using the beauty blender sponge because it has the narrower end that’s good for reaching those small areas near the bridge of your nose.
Step 6: Pressed Powder to Set Concealer & Prevent Creasing
This step is important to prevent my concealer from creasing. I tap the damp beauty blender sponge into the setting powder, and lightly press under my eyes to set the concealer. I will always apply just a small amount to my cheeks as well. I use medium #2.
Step 7: Bronzer
Next up is bronzer. The NARS ‘Laguna’ shade is the one I have used for forever and I love it. I apply it allover my face and make sure you apply and blend through your neck. It’s really the only makeup product I use that I will apply to my neck. In addition to applying allover, I also use the smaller side of the brush to apply the bronzer if I want to highlight my cheeks more.
Step 8: Blush & Face Illuminator
This step is more optional for me than the other steps. If I do wear blush, I use Hourglass Lighting Blush in ‘mood exposure’ to my cheeks. Then if I want more glow, I use Laura Mercier Face Illuminator in the shade ‘indiscretion’. To apply this, I use the smaller end of my makeup brush and apply a little my forehead, cheekbones and nose.
Step 9: My All-Time Favorite Matte Lipcolor
If you are not new around here, then you’ll know this MAC Mattle Lipcolor is my everyday go-to. The shade I use is ‘Burnt Spice’. It’s not drying and it lasts all day.
Step 10 & 11: Eye Makeup
I know some people like to do their eye makeup before face their makeup, but I am team after face makeup. I will do an updated eye makeup tutorial, but for now, I’ll share the cream shadow stick I love and my eyeshadow palette.
Step 12: Mascara
Until I can get my lash extensions back, this Too Faced mascara has done wonders for my lashes. It’s the only thing that makes them look decent these days. Highly recommend!
And that’s it! It looks like a lot of steps, but once you get into your routine, the application goes by so fast. Let me know if you have any questions or any makeup tips & hacks you’d like to share!
Have a great day!
xo, Jaime
