Behind the Scenes of the 1. State x Jaime Shrayber Collection
To quickly recap, I went to New York in September to meet with 1. State for a preliminary meeting. Nothing was officially set in stone so I didn’t want to say a whole lot about the first trip. It’s safe to say we are definitely moving forward with this collaboration and I’ll be designing a few pieces (similar to a capsule collection) for each season in 2020. To say how I’m incredibly excited I am is an understatement. This has always been one of my biggest dreams and it’s surreal that it’s all actually happening!
The 1.State x Jaime Shrayber collection launched its first few pieces and you can see it all plus styling tips in this blog post. I’ll have a few pieces trickle out out every month for the remainder of 2020! I wanted to share a sneak peak of one of my pieces from the collection that will be launching this Saturday plus a video of what everything looks like behind the scenes.
This process takes so much planning and there’s a lot of lead time that we had to make up for. Since the design team has already designed and produced the pieces from February to June, what I’ll be doing is changing the colors, prints, cut, etc. Basically, I’ll still be able to bring my style into the process by going in and saying “I like this silhouette and this style, but I want it in this color and this print, etc”. We are focusing on this until June. Then after June is when I will create my designs from scratch and have my ideas come to life. I still think I’m dreaming! Pinch me!
I visited the 1.State office this past Thursday to make selections for which pieces I want to launch for next Fall. We walked through every single hanger on every single rack. It was SO exciting to see all the the samples that have been created based on the inspiration and mood boards we have sent 1.State over the past few months. I then walked through the room again by myself to pick out items to try-on to get an idea of whether or not it was the right piece to include in the collection. Every garment in the room were all sample items without a “true size”. So while many pieces were a great fit, I had to keep in mind that these were samples and the final production item would have a more true to size fit. Also since these were all samples, I was still able to make fabric/style/cut/color changes as needed. So Fun!!
After trying on probably 30+ pieces, I narrowed it down to about 20. I then had to narrow it down even more to refine the pieces that will be going out each month considering things like the material and color. In the end, after switching pieces back and forth, I left that evening with the design team taking notes on what I want changed along with my final picks set. I couldn’t have asked to work with a better team than the girls from 1.State. They made this a dream collaboration.
